We offer:
- Implementation Materials: Our employer tools will help companies to develop a comprehensive plan that they can use to achieve their health improvement goals. For the broker selling The Other Health Plan, we provide all the tools you need to feel confident in providing answers to clients on "Why wellness?" and "Why The Other Health Plan?"
- Electronic Tools: We offer an array of electronic tools to help employees as they seek to make lasting behavior changes. We can provide:
- Health Risk Assessments (HRAs),
- A Health Information Portal
- Virtual Trainers
- Goal Trackers
- Online Wellness Communities focused on bringing together individuals with similar health-related goals
- Coaching: We offer access to personal, telephonic and electronic coaching services. Most adults know what they need to do to become healthier, they just need a coach to coach them to the solution that will work for them. For nutrition-specific questions, our members can turn to our RDonCall service. Our licensed, registered dietitian stands ready to provide answers via e-mail within 24 hours.
- Challenges: Our behavior-change incentive programs are intended to move participants along the behavior-change continuum, reduce risk factors, and improve behaviors.
- Consulting: We offer consulting to employer groups via phone, email and onsite. Some of the web-based tools in the Employer Solution Center provide consulting guidance. Onsite consulting is available for an additional fee. The Other Health Plan clients will receive regular reports regarding employee participation and aggregate assessment results where applicable. So you can track how your efforts are impacting your employees and your workplace.
- Community Resources: The Other Health Plan will partner with existing community resources. Our intent is to encourage the use of existing resources and participation in local events.
- Public Speaking: The Other Health Plan can also provide speakers for events to associations, groups and conferences.
Our History
The Other Health Plan started as a vision of the leaders of Group Benefits, Ltd. (GBL), of Urbandale, Iowa. Like most employers, GBL struggled with how to keep ever-increasing employee health care costs under control while making sure morale and productivity remained high. Learn more...
As a leader in benefit solutions for individuals and groups, GBL's expertise gave company management a unique inside perspective on ways to address the problem. GBL President/CEO Brian Hewitt knew that in addition to giving his team members the coverage they needed and deserved, he had to help his employees understand and take personal responsibility for their own health - to change their mindset and their behavior.
Although there were many worksite health improvement programs in the marketplace, none of the offerings provided all the needed tools and resources in a way that today's employers need, and most were tied to an insurance plan. That's when GBL decided to create its own solution: The Other Health Plan. The Other Health Plan is a stand-alone and portable, all-in-one, easy-to-use, customizable health improvement solution accessible to anyone.

With nearly 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, Brian has helped Group Benefits Ltd., expand from a two-person shop to a large insurance broker with more than 900 agents throughout the Midwest.
Brian believes in leading by example. His passion and dedication to health improvement can be seen in the personal commitment he has made to his own employees - from providing them with free individual memberships to the local YMCA to seeding health savings accounts.

Kerry provides the strategic direction and leadership in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of The Other Health Plan. Learn more...
Kerry has more than 19 years in worksite health promotion. Her years of experience working with the business community to design and deliver innovative and results-oriented wellness solutions have helped her to build a keen eye for what will work in any given worksite environment.
Prior to joining The Other Health Plan, Kerry led the Wellness Council of Iowa for 14 years. She shaped the nonprofit organization from a local group into a leading statewide health and wellness organization. As its executive director, Kerry oversaw all operations for the nonprofit membership organization and was a hands-on administrator. She coordinated the highly respected and well-attended statewide worksite wellness conference annually.

As our Director of Business Development, he's created relationships with health clubs, strategic web partners, and he creates joint venture opportunities that help us sell the program more efficiently. His marketing and sales leadership experience in health-related companies and a strong personal commitment to wellness makes Chris a key player in bringing our program to employers, individuals and other partners. Chris is passionate that The Other Health Plan will help build healthier lifestyles, leading to healthier communities that are able to retain residents and recruit businesses.
