What Could You Do With $650 Million?

When money is tight, we sometimes cut back on the things that keep us healthy – we end our gym memberships and buy fewer fresh fruits and veggies. The same goes for many companies and communities.

As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Prevention and Wellness Fund will award grants to help:
Increase physical activity.
Improve nutrition.
Decrease obesity.
Decrease tobacco use.

Being called a long-overdue investment by many, the goal of the Communities Putting Prevention to Work initiative is to address preventable causes of death and disability and improve the health of communities.

The Community Program allows communities to apply for grants in a competitive process. Communities will be able to use the grants to:

Create community approaches to disease prevention and control through physical activity, nutrition, and tobacco use.
Assemble a coalition of local wellness partners, from local and state health departments to hospitals, businesses, schools, and churches.
Create a plan to ensure success and evaluate the impact of their efforts.
